Earlier this month, a group of Beyond Walls members took on the challenge of a HYROX race — and they were absolutely brilliant.
HYROX is no walk in the park. It’s a mix of running, functional movements. It’s hard. But each of our athletes stepped up, dug deep, and got it done. No drama, no excuses — just grit, teamwork, and a big helping of sweat.
And looking around the gym since, they’ve sparked something tangible in the rest of us.
What Even Is Inspiration?
We throw the saying around a lot — “That was so inspiring!” — usually after watching a motivational video or someone eat a salad voluntarily.
But here’s a better definition:
Inspiration is when someone makes you believe you could do something that once felt out of reach.
By that standard, our HYROX crew have been truly inspirational. They didn’t just do something impressive — they made others start asking, “Could I do that too?”
And that’s powerful.
“I Think I’ve Bitten Off More Than I Can Chew…”
I recall so clearly one of these athlete saying this to me soon after they had signed up. But they didn’t stop. They didn’t opt out or quietly disappear. They trained, they kept showing up, and ultimately they crossed that finish line — tired, proud, and absolutely buzzing.
That’s the real story here. Not that they were perfectly prepared or fearless — but that they did it anyway. That’s what belief looks like in action.
From FOMO to Fire
Let’s be honest — the rest of us watching on felt a little bit of FOMO.
You know the feeling: proud of your mates, a little jealous of the patch, and suddenly Googling “How the hell do I get access to HYROX tickets” at 11pm.
And here’s the thing: that’s where it starts.
FOMO turns into curiosity. Curiosity becomes a goal. And before you know it, you’re asking which trainers are best for sled pushes and wondering if anyone else wants to do it with you.
What started as “I wish I’d done it” is quickly becoming “Next time, I will.”
“If They Can Do It…”
There’s a new belief at Beyond Walls. Because when you see your gym buddy, the one who like you is good at some things but struggles with others, the one who celebrates getting through a whole warm-up without swearing or screwing up — when they go out and do something like HYROX, it hits different.
It suddenly feels possible. That’s the ripple effect we’re seeing — and it’s magic.
More Than Just a Race
Yes, they completed HYROX. But what they really did was remind us all that:
That’s what Beyond Walls is all about.
So What Now?
Everyone has their own goals and ambitions. Some of you are already plotting your HYROX debuts. Some are adding a bit more intent to training. Some are simply thinking differently about what’s possible.
And that’s the win.
To our HYROX athletes: thank you for doing something hard — and making us believe we could do it too.
To everyone else: when you’re ready to take on your own “bit off more than I can chew” moment, we’ll be here — handing you the flag, cheering you on and being proud as punch.
